Our daughter was diagnosed with Bi-polar disease in 1981. She
became ill while in her first year of college out-of-state, and at
the end of the year we took her home in a suicidal depression.
After seeing psychologists and getting no help, we finally had to
have her hospitalized, as she seemed to be intent on killing
herself. In the state hospital, she was diagnosed with manic
depression with schizoaffective disorder. She was in the hospital
for four months, came home heavily drugged, and was again
hospitalized seven months later for another three months.
Since that time, she has been hospitalized every ten or eleven
months for anywhere from seven to eleven weeks at a time. In
between episodes her dosages would be lowered and she would become
somewhat functional. But nothing prevented her from being
hospitalized a few months later.
After a couple of years on this merry-go-round, we began to look
into alternative therapies, since the orthodox medical route was
helping only minimal/y. We realized that not only was a cure
impossible, but that the medications weren't even able to keep her
out of the hospital. Of course, through all this she had
psychiatrists who were unable to help with her illness, which
involved depression, hallucinations, and bizarre and sometimes
violent behavior.
Our daughter has had at least a dozen alternative therapies,
including acupuncture treatments with various fine acupuncturists.
Some of these treatments helped to get her past most of the side
effects of her medications - but nothing prevented her from
re-entering a hospital some months later.
In February 1997 she again began acupuncture treatments. She asked
to do this because she remembered feeling somewhat better after her
past treatments. She began treatment with a young woman named
Rebecca, whom we had met many years before. After four sessions,
Rebecca said that our daughter was ready for NAET. My response was
"but she is not allergic to anything." You see, she had never
exhibited any of the usual signs of allergic reaction. Rebecca
said, "She is a highly allergic person." I didn't really believe
her, but we decided to give it a try, since we felt that we had
nothing to lose. So she began NAET treatments. She has, through the
past 16 years been on numerous anti-psychotic, anti-manic, and
anti-convulsive medications, and on extremely high doses each time
she was hospitalized, as her manic and schizoid episodes were so
profound. Now, 18 months after beginning the NAET treatments, our
daughter is off all but a very small amount of her last remaining
medication. Each time her medicines have been lowered, thanks to
NAET, she has seen a naturopathic physician who utilizes herbs and
homeopathics to make sure she remains stable while her body is
adjusting to the decrease.
We have a young male friend who has now begun NAET treatments, and
almost immediately began to lift from his severe clinical
depression. For the first time in many years, he is hopeful for his
future.
The mental illness from which so many suffer often begins with a
very sensitive body. Ingesting foods (or taking in any substance)
that the body doesn't want to accept upsets the balance of various
organ systems, which, over the course of years, culminates in an
assault on the most vulnerable part of the body. In many people the
most vulnerable organ is the brain, and in those people, mental
illness is the result. Most often there is no warning because there
are no recognizable symptoms.
NAET completely eliminated the allergies that, for our daughter,
manifested as mental illness. From what we know, the treatment
should work equally well for all types of "mental illnesses."
At the present time our daughter is working at a local library, and
once more is reading two or three books at a time. Until now, she
has been unable to read more than a few lines at a given time,
because her mind was so cloudy from a combination of drugs and the
illness. She takes aerobics classes and is able to interact with
"normal" people once more. Recently, she fielded questions about
the NAET treatment at a lecture given by my husband and myself.
That was something she could not possibly have done before
NAET.
Our daughter is 36 years old, and it's as if her life is just
beginning. The prognosis is that she will be off all medication
within the next three to four months. We are lowering her
medications very slowly, in spite of the fact that she has
exhibited barely any symptoms of withdrawal, thanks to the
alternative methods, in addition to the NAET, that are being
employed.
If any therapists utilizing NAET feel that they would like for
prospective patients to talk to my husband or myself about our
experience with NAET, we would be very pleased to answer any
questions or reservations they may have. Our telephone number is
1-301-656-6819. One of us is generally available after 7:30
P.M.
It is our fervent wish that, at some point in time, "mental
illness" will be only a memory. We know that, thanks to the NAET
treatment formulated by Dr. Nambudripad, we have found an
answer.
